Midnite Snacks : Chicago
@ 1366 Space (a temporarily rented commercial storefront)
1366 N. Milwaukee Ave. Chicago, IL 60642
Opening Reception: Friday, March 12, 2010 @ 6-10pm
Curated by Brian Hubble, Amie Cunat, Travis Wyche

Studies and compositions often play a vital role in the artistic process. Whether a five-minute sketch on paper or a finely worked image on canvas, these efforts reveal the thoughts of an artistic mind at work.

Midnite Snacks : Chicago includes over 150 international artists presenting diverse studies that have helped actualize works of merit. Coming from far ends of the visual arts spectrum, these are works that usually fall in the shadow of more important pieces. This is a collection of the forgotten blueprints lying around every artist’s studio. From abstraction to photo-realistic drawing to digital renderings, each piece functions as the backbone of what is to come.

Midnite Snacks exhibited at Ghost Print Gallery in Richmond, VA and No Globe Gallery in Brooklyn, NY in 2009. Plans to extend the show to Milwaukee, WI and a museum in Newport News, VA are in development.

NOTACHOREOGRAM
Currently seeking participants for the intermedia experiment known as NOTACHOREOGRAM

A list of artistic motivations (to be differentiated from influences or inspirations):

· To create images, objects, and experiences of an auto-referential, self-reflexive, and transparent nature, as a critical component to the process and product of art making being intrinsically integrated.

· To craft an art that generates more questions than attempts to provide answers.

· To insist upon an a priori artist-inflicted intentionality to any artistic practice. Indeterminism and chance exist outside of the artist, that is, a decision still must be made to allow for the functioning of such an idea within a work.

· To research and refine involvements in synergetic formalisms; to continue to articulate the complex interdiscursivity of ontological architectures of every epistemology.

· To perpetually propose a renewed phenomenology of consciousness via perception of pattern-phenomena (and patterns within phenomena) in all material (objects of systematic reflection and analysis in any “form,” of any substance).

· To have the research culminate into a novel design aesthetic to phenomenologically disseminate content; “media is the message,” “art is life,” “energy is a wave,” (etc).

NOTACHOREOGRAM...

· Studies the interrelations, interactions, interlacings, interdependencies, and intrapsychic opportunities fluxing dynamic ad infinitum in the areas of sound, movement, writing, and thought (etc).

· Offers an intermedia collaborative arena.

· Exists as an experimental experiential exercise.

· Aims to conceive and enact modes of thought and physical action to further broaden and articulate the network of associations between topics of study, methodologies, materials, mediums and modes of transference.

· Envisions a compositional study of time, space, and force.

· Attempts to apply these primary principles towards the creation of novel notational formalisms and approaches to instrumentation and performative styles.

· Explores the interstices of movement (human, natural, mechanical, and otherwise) between sound, film, and other performative actions in space.

· Studies these correlations to movement of the eye over 2D visual images, in relation to written and spoken language, and other phenomena.

· Creates new languages (modes of transference) between the media/material utilized, the composer/choreographer/writer/artist/being, and the audience at large.

· Will apply and present the research and results of such experiments through myriad materials, including but not limited to: sound recordings and music on various media, books, pamphlets, zines, leaflets, broadsides, manifestos, essays on the phenomenology of sense perception and the physics of sound, novel instrumentation and styles, novel movements and corresponding notation, unique site/event specific intermedia performances of various scale, unique works of mixed-media, multimedia, and intermedia art works to exist in isolation as well as in relation to each other and other outlets, published research on studies of gestured emotion, physicalized psychology, intrapsychic mobilitiy, extrasensory perception, cognitive motion awareness, and the malleability between the human body, artistic media, and the epistemologies of time, space, and force within the universe as we have, will, and do perceive and analyze it.

Moving to Chicago in July/August
I've been accepted into the Graduate Painting program at the School of the Art Institute Chicago, as well as extended the honor of a Trustee Scholarship.

This is an amazing opportunity and I am very excited, even as I know I will sorely miss some keen minds and natural outcroppings of the bay area.
